So the first of Taylor Swift's re-recorded albums has arrived, and I've got to say I'm excited about it. Fearless was a great album to begin with, so whatever the results of this experiment/getting back what's hers wouldn't be bad. But I was surprised at the result of Taylor's Version.
The original Fearless was released in 2008, and the thirteen years between these two albums have given a lot of the tracks new dimensions. Just by virtue of Swift now being in her thirties, there's more weight to the songs about love and the end of that love. Now that there's a decade's more life experience behind those words, there's meaning to them, even when talking about her version of Romeo & Juliet in "Love Story" and the relationship at the heart of "The Way I Loved You".
This just proves how great of songwriter and storyteller she was at such a young age. And you can see why she won the Grammy for Album of the Year.
And, with her decision to release songs from the vault, we get to experience new gems from that time instead of just the old ones. The obviously highlight being "Mr. Perfectly Fine", now the second song on this album about Joe Jonas. And to quote Sophie Turner, it's not not a bop. These six offerings from the vault has got me curious about what she's gonna release for her next Taylor's Version.
We've heard so much over the last year about her big endeavor to re-record her first seven albums, but now that we've got the first one in our ears, I can't wait to hear the others, including reputation, an album I do not like. Very much looking forward to Red and "State of Grace", so hopefully that is sooner than later.
