- Anything Goes
- Think of the tap dancing! A classic show that's had a popular revival in 2011 with fun songs and comedy.
- Chicago
- It's Chicago. People know the songs already, and thanks to the movie, it's shown you can find inventive ways to present the material in a different form. I'd like to see how a live television staging would go.
- A Chorus Line
- Great dancing, great songs, and a love letter to musical theater, which is really what these stagings are.
- Company
- No network would ever go for this because it's more adult and mature than the previous musicals that have been chosen, but I like Company, and with the passing of Stephen Sondheim, this might be one they could easily stage for a live broadcast. Also, what a finale "Being Alive" would be.
- Kiss Me, Kate
- All I can think about is the staging of "Too Darn Hot", and that should be enough for NBC's consideration.
- Once
- Most of these live musicals have big numbers, so it would be interesting for them to do a different kind of musical, and Once might be the perfect one to test those waters with.
- Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella
- This show was originally written for a live television broadcast, so it'd be a connection to the past and present of this form. Next year is also the 65th anniversary of its debut, so what a way to mark a milestone like that than a revival.
Musicals That Should Get the Live Broadcast Treatment
Friday, December 3, 2021
With Annie Live! airing on NBC, the live musical broadcast is back! And it’s got me thinking about the next musicals I’d like to see get this sort of treatment.
